World Joy Celebration (Pre-Dedication)

This week about 35 other Obroni’s (white people) came to Abomosu from the states. They are mainly representatives of Miche Bag Company (www.miche.com). Miche raised and donated $35,000 to build the newest World Joy school in Abomosu. This week they are here to help finish the building, improve some of the other schools, and explore. This post will be dedicated to the first few days before the actual dedication.

Monday was spent repainting the World Joy Zion School. This school is one we pass each day when going to town. The kids loved all the white people around, especially the kids with Miche. Those miche kids were so great to watch. They were very engaged and entertaining with the Ghanaian school children.

On Tuesday the Obronis played a football (soccer) match against the teachers of the new school. We had a bit of help. We had 10 players to their 8 and we had three Ghanaians on our teach as well (Seth Oppong (District President), a boy named Douglas, and a boy named Kwesi). We played a full game and ended with a 4-4 tie. Seth scored three goals and I scored one. I do have to say it was a great moment for me to score on a Ghanaian when I am definitely not much of a soccer player. Early in the game I also tripped and bruised my rib, pretty sure it will hurt for a while. Below is the Ghanaian team we played.

Chloee and I in our “spacious” uniforms. Unfortunately Nate and Maddie were teaching in another town and not able to make it to the game. We missed them a ton!

On Wednesday night there was a dinner and cultural performance at a local joint called Mona Palace. The dinner was excellent and the entertainment was great. These kids really know how to move!

This kid could DANCE!

6.20.12 - Abomosu (Wednesday) (11)
I am not sure if this is a dance group or just a bunch of kids but they really did a great job. My favorite part was when they pulled people from the crowd to get up and dance. I am just happy they didn’t grab me.

End of the night. The guy in the front is Sammy (one of the teachers and in love with Maddie). The girl next to her hugging Nate is Hannah. She was taking care of us while Margaret was gone in Accra with the grandkids. The other white girl is Haley. She is out here for a month doing humanitarian work (staying with Stephen and Sonya). She came to spend a week in Abomosu, and what a great week to show up!
