Traveling to Ghana

I do not think flying red-eye is ever a great experience but thankfully ours was not too bad. For the most part we slept most the flight. Nate said he only got a couple hours sleep though. We landed at JFK just before 6am. We were under the impression we would be able to immediately check our bags for Ghana (Chloee was lucky and the lady in SLC checked them all the way through), but apparently we had to wait until later that afternoon. Thankfully (though expensive) they had a storage room. Tracey helped us and gave us a discount which was great. We saved about 20%. Being nice pays off!

We learned how to take the Subway and went into the city. The subway is absolutely disgusting. It was worse than Paris (where guys were just peeing in the hallways).
I was starving and bought an egg sandwich on a bagel from a street vendor.
It was delicious!

After that we started our NYC adventure at Central Park which is HUGE!
The park is absolutely beautiful and I am very pleased they have this oasis of sorts right in the middle of such a big city. We did not even get through a third of it.
As you can see in the photo, we were at the fountain where the big dance number on the movie “Enchanted” took place. Chloee was kind enough to inform me of this, or else I would not have known.

After we left the park we wanted to head to Times Square. As we are walking Nate randomly sees the temple. It is amazing how it is right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the big city. We went to the front desk and chatted with the lady for a minute. She was super sweet and was excited to have us come back. I definitely plan to go there when I am in New York again in August.

My favorite part of our time in New York was the opportunity Nate and I had to get our picture on a large electronic sign in the middle of times square. Pretty cool!

We originally planned to explore Amsterdam for a few hours at that layover but decided to hang out in the airport. Chloee’s foot had swollen drastically from all the walking in New York and the flight to Amsterdam. We decided to nap instead. Nate found us these lounge chairs which were fantastic! As you can see I zonked and I slept a good 5-6 hours. It was perfect for acclimating myself to the new time, at least I hope!
